Comments:
This airsoft gas
blow-back pistol is made in Japan by Tokyo Marui (TM). The airguns in the Hi-Capa series are replicas of
various STI pistols, which are popular with IPSC competitors.
The basic Hi-Capa 5.1 comes with a plastic slide, which requires
the use of duster gas. Using a higher pressure gas will
crack the plastic slide. One of the first upgrades usually
performed on the TM Hi-Capa 5.1 is to replace the plastic slide
with a metal slide in order to use higher pressure gases. Using
a metal slide and higher pressure gas also requires upgrading
the recoil spring and hammer spring. Removing the slide provides access to the
adjustable hop up control. The trigger on this gun is
two-stage, with the first
stage being very short and smooth and the second stage having a crisp
break. The addition of a compensator and longer barrel improved
both the accuracy and muzzle velocity of this gun. With all the modifications made to this
gun, it has excellent balance, pointability, power, and
accuracy and makes for an excellent Open Division race pistol.
The original gun was purchased from
UNCompany
in Hong Kong. For information on the unmodified Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa
5.1,

Performance:
Measurements were made on
02/22/09 at a temperature of 74 ºF and 14' elevation. A ten shot
string was fired from a bench rest at 15' using KSC Perfect BBs (0.25 g),
Tanio Koba Hi-Flo valve, and
propane gas.
The highest velocity measured was 338 fps and the lowest was 327
fps (average of the 10-shot string was 330 fps, s = 2.5). A five
shot string fired offhand using a red dot sight, KSC Perfect BBs (.25 g), and
propane gas grouped at 0.33". Click the thumbnails below to see larger images.
