Comments: This airsoft gas blow-back pistol is made in Japan by Tokyo Marui (TM). The airguns in the Hi-Capa series are replicas of various STI pistols, which are popular with IPSC competitors. The basic Hi-Capa 5.1 comes with a plastic slide, which requires the use of HFC-134a or G17 gas. Using a higher pressure gas will crack the plastic slide. One of the first upgrades usually performed on the TM Hi-Capa 5.1 is to replace the plastic slide with a metal slide in order to use higher pressure gases. Removing the slide provides access to the adjustable hop up control. The fiber optic front sight makes target acquisition a little quicker. The trigger has been tuned to lower the pull to just a little over 2 pounds. This gun was purchased from UNCompany (custom gun) and then heavily modded with parts from Cobra, UNCompany and DEN TRINITY. The modifications turned this gun into a fine Standard Division race pistol. For information on the unmodified Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa 5.1, click here.

Review #1 of the TM Hi-Capa 5.1
Exploded Part View of TM Hi-Capa

Performance: Measurements were made on 11/25/07 at a temperature of 74 ºF and 14' elevation. A ten shot string was fired from a bench rest at 15' using Excel BBs (0.25 g), Tanio Koba hi-flo valve, and propane gas. The highest velocity measured was 298 fps and the lowest was 282 fps (average of the 10-shot string was 290 fps, s = 5.5). A five shot string fired offhand using open sights, Excel BBs (.25 g), and propane gas grouped at 0.45". Click  the thumbnails below to see larger images. Rear View: This photo shows the slide held back. The slide will not lock back due to the short-stroke kit.

Internals: This photo shows the short-stroke spring kit and the Airsoft Surgeon aluminum blowback unit.

Removing the slide provides access to the adjustable hop up control.

Turning the hop-up control counter-clockwise increases the hop.

Front View: This view shows the two punch-out holes on the bottom of the dustcover that can be used for mounting accessories.

View of Inner and Outer Barrels: The Nine Ball inner barrel and the Nine Ball outer barrel make a nice fit with no slop.

Loading BBs: The BB follower (spring) must be held back by your finger when loading BBs into the magazine.

Packaging: This photo shows the TM Hi-Capa (Edge) as it arrived from UNCompany in Hong Kong (the safety levers, slide stop, and mag release were added soon after receiving the gun). The Shooter's Design STI grips were later replaced with the original TM equipment to keep magazines from slipping out of the gun.
