Comments:
This was the last of the
Western six-guns produced by Crosman. By the 1980's, interest in
the old Western guns had waned while interest in modern
semi-autos and revolvers was on the upswing. With the Model
1861, Crosman finally figured out how to make a reliable CO2
holding/piercing system for their six-guns. Also, this gun was
designed to shoot both lead pellets and steel BBs and included a
cross-block safety (the only Crosman Western model to include
this type of safety). While this gun is fun to shoot, it lacks
the fine balance of the earlier Crosman six-guns. It is the most
accurate of all the Crosman six-guns. This specimen
is in near mint condition with the original box and owner's manual.
Performance:
Measurements were made on 8/03/06 at
a temperature of 86 ºF and 14' elevation. A ten shot string was
fired from a bench rest at 15' using Crosman Premier Super Match
pellets (7.9 gr). The highest velocity measured was 363 fps, the lowest was
306 fps (average of the 10-shot string was 336 fps). A six shot
string fired with open sights grouped at 0.47". Click the
