Comments: The Colt Gold Cup CO2 pistol from Umarex is a good replica of the Colt Gold Cup firearm. This replica is all metal and retains the wrap-around rubber grip and extended beaver tail of the original. Umarex added several items to this pistol that are typical of upgrades that owners of the Gold Cup firearm would typically add including an extended slide lock lever, an extended magazine release button, a thumb protector, and a compensator. The compensator on the replica is purely cosmetic and does not extend the length of the barrel. Umarex produced several versions of the Colt Gold Cup that differed in the types of controls provided. Some models had extended double-sided thumb safeties, others had partially drilled triggers, etc. A Bomar sight, standard on the firearm, is available as an upgrade. This gun has a very good SA and DA trigger. In single-action mode, the trigger has a very light pull and a reasonably crisp break. Accuracy is pretty good, but surprisingly, isn't quite as good as my standard Umarex Colt 1911A1.

Pyramyd  Air Report on the Colt 1911A1.

Performance: Measurements were made on 1/11/09 at a temperature of 74 ºF and 14' elevation. A ten shot string was fired from a bench rest at 15' using H&N Finale Match (pistol) pellets (7.3 gr). The highest velocity measured in DA mode was 417 fps, the lowest was 355 fps (average of the 10-shot string was 382 fps, s = 22). Firing SA resulted in a lower average velocity but with less shot-to-shot variation (average = 352 fps, s = 7). A six shot string fired SA with open sights grouped at 0.59". Right Profile: The Colt Gold Cup has a wrap-around, one-piece, rubber grip. The grip safety must be depressed in order for the gun to fire.

Front View: The compensator is a purely cosmetic accessory. The barrel is the same length as the standard Umarex Colt 1911A1 and does not extend into the compensator.

Top Left View:

Controls: Functional controls on this pistol include the extended slide lock lever, the extended magazine release button (it pops the right side grip off), the thumb safety, grip safety (with enhanced beaver tail), and hammer.

Right Side Markings:

Left Side Markings:

Loading Pellets: The Colt Gold Cup uses the same 8-shot metal magazine as most of the other models in the Umarex line. The magazine loads with the index ratchet teeth facing the rear of the gun.
Loading CO2: The Colt Gold Cup uses the same lever piercing mechanism as several other pistols in the Umarex line. This mechanism is reliable, easy to use, and creates a realistic look in the grip area of the pistol. The one-piece, wrap-around, rubber grip is clearly visible in this photo.
