Comments:
This
pistol is an excellent replica of the Ruger GP-100 magnum
revolver. This heavy
all metal revolver is
generally better made than other contemporary Anics models such as
the A-101 and A-111. The body of the gun has a
painted black finish and the grips are covered with black rubber. It comes with a fixed front
sight and a fully adjustable plastic rear sight. The A-201 was
available in both black and chrome finishes and with 4" or 6"
barrels. The guns with 6" barrels were called magnums and
carried the designation A-201M. The A-201 has a very heavy (> 12
lbs) trigger pull in both single and double action, which
impacts shooting accuracy. Each chamber of the revolving
cylinder can hold up to five BBs for a total of 30 shots.
Unfortunately, the gun is difficult to load and unload. To
assist with loading and unloading, the gun comes with a tool
that has a magnetic tip to hold the BBs in place during the
process. This tool stores in the bottom of the grip. The A-201
has reasonable power and good accuracy, although the measured
muzzle velocity is well below the manufacturer's claims. The
Anics A-201 was manufactured in small numbers (approximately
3000 were made) for only two years and has become
difficult to find. The Anics website contains no mention of the
A-201.
Performance:
Measurements were made on
11/27/08 at a temperature of 72 ºF and 14' elevation. A ten shot string was fired
from a bench rest at 15' using Daisy Avanti BBs (5.5 gr).
The highest velocity measured was 366 fps, the lowest was 321 fps
(average of the 10-shot string was 349 fps). A six shot string
shot with open sights grouped at 0.42". Click the thumbnail below to see a
